Marjorie Wenthe, 95, of West Des Moines and formerly of Hawkeye, died Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. Jim Harbaugh officiating. Interment will follow at Hawkeye Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 24th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday.
Marjorie Marie, daughter of Rolland and Marie Mittlestedt Granger, was born August 7, 1922, on the family farm in Fayette County, Iowa between Hawkeye and West Union. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union. Marjorie received her education in the West Union Schools, graduating from West Union High School in 1939. On October 10, 1948, she was united in marriage with Levere Wenthe at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union. During Marge’s working career, she worked five years for Lauer Implement in Hawkeye, worked at the Hawkeye Post Office from 1944-1986, and assisted her husband with his construction business and carpet and drapery business for many years prior to retiring in 1990. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye and WELCA. She enjoyed gardening and word find puzzles.
She is survived by two sons, Daryl (Patricia) Wenthe of Marion and Dean (Sue) Wenthe of West Des Moines; a son-in-law, Dave Goss of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Todd Anderson, Amy (Bryon) Howland, Jeff (Katie) Wenthe, Jennifer (Senica) Fisher, Allison (David) Pierce, and Abigail (David) Harrison; and seven great grandchildren, Tyler Anderson, Carson Anderson, Austin Kugler, Payton Howland, and Gracelyn, Beckett, and Reid Fisher.
In addition to her husband, Levere, who died in 2010, Marjorie was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene Goss; her parents; three great grandchildren, Tanner, Macy, and Morgan Anderson; three sisters, Evelyn Lauer, Ila Appelman, and Helen Lauer; and one brother, Richard Granger.
